The Directorate of Labour in Nablus and the Alumni Unit have held a workshop entitled
“Women-led Businesses to Alleviate Unemployment”. It aimed to introduce the cooperative societies
that help women to create their own business and present a model of a successful business.
The workshop included an introduction to the cooperative societies such as the Cooperative Association
for Saving and Credit for Women Entrepreneurs in Nablus, and presented its services for women
including lending, savings, training and promotion especially in the villages which shall contribute in
enhancing their role economically and socially.
It also presented “Bayt Aleiz” project. This Feminist Entrepreneurship project offers the opportunity for
local women to work in the field of cooking traditional and street food and then sell it for women
employees which will provide an income for the women under this project.
Furthermore, there was a discussion on the Palestinian Labor Law regarding worker’s wages in 2022, the
minimum wage increase, and the challenges to enforce this law. The participants were introduced to their
rights according to the Palestinian labor law and how to identify the problems that challenges the
Palestinian worker. The workshop also aimed to raise awareness on the workers’ rights in general.
Ms.Alia Afana, Member of the Employment Department at the Labor Director, Nablus, Ms. Laila Al-
Arja, Director of Cooperative Societies, and Ms. Mahdia Damanhouri, Coordinator of the Complaints
Department at the Director of Labor, have attended the workshop.
